We honor our founding fathers,
But who are they?
Sons, mothers, daughters,
Called themselves slaves.
Founding fathers owning slaves,
What does that mean?
One man out of millions craves,
A part of the vast green.
America is just a broken piece
Of this huge confusing puzzle.
Some of us are happy and free,
But some of us are shut down as if we’ve been muzzled.
How do we get by in a land so free,
If we aren't all equal?
Fighting, violence, saying sorry,
Sitting here wondering if there will be a sequel.
Will this new version of America be good,
Or will it be a repeat of the past?
Anger sparking like firewood,
Burning like summer grass.
When the sequel finally comes,
Will we be happy?
Tears of joy, no longer on the run
Caught up in the elatedness, seeming very sappy.
Is it so sappy if we’re no longer held against our will?
But who are they?
Sons, mothers, daughters,
Called themselves slaves.
Founding fathers owning slaves,
What does that mean?
One man out of millions craves,
A part of the vast green.
