SUPREME: Wednesday morning, President Obama nominated judge Merrick Garland to the open seat on the U.S. Supreme Court. Obama praised Garland, widely considered a centrist and supported by many Republicans when he was appointed to his present position as Chief Justice of the U.S. Court of Appeals in the Washington, D.C., district. Obama said it is the Constitutional obligation -- and a matter of fairness -- that the U.S. Senate give Garland a hearing.

The Republicans said they will not even consider Garland saying that because it is an election year, the American voters should have a say with their choice of the next President -- and let him or her decide who should be nominated to the Supreme Court vacancy created by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia last month.
