Winter

In the middle of winter you can’t hear the birds call from the tallest trees
You can’t see the grass rustle in the wind
You can’t hear the little bugs floating and flying in the air around you
You can’t feel the soft buzz of life
In the middle of winter you can hear the crunch of the snow breaking beneath your feet
You can see the wisps of cold air float above the earth
You can hear the soft fall of new snow
You can feel the cold pressing against your skin
In the middle of winter it seems the whole world is silent
But when you listen closely you can see how loud winter really is

  • The Present

When I was younger everything was simple
I didn’t have to worry about grades and relationships and my future
I just lived in my mind
    Day after day
    Things were good
I didn’t notice how the way I am would change how people view me
  • Taken away by the wind

You can see your eye lashes when the sun shines in your face
Like little dots floating above your iris
When you catch a glimpse of them they look like the white fuzz on dandelion puffballs
  • Never let go

I used to think love was a funny thing
But here I am writing a poem about it
I mean who am I to write a poem about love
    I don’t know much
    Or anything at all
But I do know that I’m in love
    I don’t know how I do
    But I do
