pumpkin spice & lemon drops

and I pound my feet along my mother's bare back
each vertebrae a pumpkin spice leaf
a lemon leaf, pound our feet along the lemon drops
sugarcoated, our heels skim the fractals away, dig into the mud
under the gradient of sumac, a pumpkin spice leaf I wonder
will they miss me when I'm gone,
under the sumac our feet pound our mother's bare back,
my fear slips into the abyss of mud
surfing the mud, under the sumac
I open my mouth to speak
our mother's bare back, lemon drops littered
but I close my lips into a smile, a little smile
pumpkin spice vertebrae sponges my fear, under the sumac
I already know the answer
