How Was It?

It was beautiful-
It was rushed like the people of New York
trying to arrive at their final destination.
It was long overdue like all the library books I store
in the corners of my room that collect too much dust.
We were like the eager children worn from summer play,
running home to their mothers for a suburban dinner.
Our teeth clanked together like two hot wheel cars
battling recklessly for the checkered finish line.
And then a pause and then again-
Grasping for each other like starving lovers of night and day,
trying to get closer to each other and leave no room for space.
It was not the staged Hollywood movie moment,
rather a time-lapse of an artist painting their best piece.
It was beautiful-
It was ours.
