Does anyone have a favorite poet? If so, who and why?

I love Langston Hughes. His poetry is timeless, and has a beautiful rhythm. I also enjoy how he talks about the motions of life in such an impactful yet simple way. His poetry isn't overcomplicated or complex, it's for everyone. Also, his poetry was a form of activism and he was an influential figure during the Harlem Renaissance, LGBTQIA + community, and preluded the Civll Rights Movement. He's proof that you can take your passions and transform them into something bigger than yourself.

I love this answer! I haven't read much by him, but what I have read has been incredible. I will definitely check out more by him. :)

Lorca. You've probably heard me rant about him before, but a collection of his essays, compiled posthumously, called In Search of Duende, is like my bible. I carry it around with my everywhere. Instead of focusing on transcendence he focuses on passion.

Sarah Kay. I adore how she makes poetry feel so much more accessible, and still gets under the surface of language in a way that feels like magic :)
