Workshop Description:

You've all heard of The Moth -- True Stories Told Live. Here's more: https://themoth.org/

The aim of this workshop is to help you create, practice and gain enthusiasm for a story you might like to present to a live audience.

This workshop will involve you both writing and telling stories and using this site's audio record function to help you bring your written voice and your spoken voice closer together. By the time you are done, we are confident you'll have a story that you like and know well enough to tell it live.

Workshop Description:

This workshop is aimed at getting you to tell a tale. And this workshop will show how a story can come from the seemingly commonplace and how it can come from some small thing that happens to you, or that you see, or that comes out of your brain (by accident.) We'll  emphasize prose, but if you feel like writing narrative poetry -- go for it.

Workshop Description:

THIS IS A PREP FOR COMMUNITY STORY -- 102

OVERVIEW: Storytelling, or narrative, is at the root of all good writing. This project -- pre-work and workshop -- is aimed at helping all of you -- students AND teachers -- create an engaging story about your community. It can be a tiny moment or a big change, it can be about you or someone who's lived in the community a long time; it can be poetry or prose or rap.

First, some acknowledgments to De Controleon (not a real name) at https://www.flickr.com/photos/tekstbazaar/  for creating the "Bag Lady" 5-photo story.

This workshop is for play. And for learning a bit about photography.

Workshop Description:

You may be one of these people: The person who comes into school on Monday morning and gets you, somehow, out of your funk with a story of some crazy, funny thing that happened over the weekend. Often they'll use facial expressions, body movement, voice to assist in setting the mood and getting you to laugh.

I actually think that we're all funny. We do some really stupid, embarrassing things that are funny on the retelling. And some of the funniest stories we have -- sometimes -- involve calamities we've endured, though they are rarely funny when they happen.

Workshop Description:

This playlist follows Interviewing I and will help you focus on more topic-based projects and help you with interviewing sources, or talking to someone for a profile or finding out information that you can only get from talking to someone in person. This is the basics of journalism.

The playlist will help you decide upon a topic and choose some people you'd like to talk to -- in person or, even, by phone. We'll go through some of the things you need to keep in mind -- preparing, how to keep it conversational, how to draw out what you need -- and then some.
