We Built This Path

Suddenly
I am riding in a rickety carriage
Full of other prisoners
Who are all enduring the same pain
As I am

And the sun
Is hiding behind a cloud
A cloud that covers the whole sky
In a blanket of
Black

What did I do?
I feel lost
Like I fell
And now I have wounds
Some you can't see

It was summer
Last time I checked
But it feels like winter
There's a lot of cold wind
That wasn't predicted in the forecast

Suddenly
I am riding in a rickety carriage
Full of other prisoners
Who are suffering
Like I am

October

October.
Already?
It still feels like winter.
The orange of the pumpkin
Looks like the sun
And reminds me
You don't know it's fall,
Because you never saw the summer

Frozen Tears

tink tink tink
Standing outside
The harsh,
Cold wind
Rushing through my soul
And cutting into wounds,
The ones you can't see
And I start crying
Trying to hold back the tears
But I can't
And they come ,
And freeze,
Before they hit the ground
And shatter
tink tink tink

Winter

Cold winds tickle the trees
As light snow falls quietly
On the leaves of an evergreen forest

Grass falls as the storm grows
Winter whistling it's bitter
Freezing songs

Delicate patterns of frost
Drifting down from the clouds
Bringing the message of winter

Valentines Day Poem

It’s valentine’s day
February 14
It's the weekend

I think
What is the purpose of this day
Is the color red or pink
Is it called valentine or valentime’s day

I think it is because of all the candy
You get now and days
That comes really handy dandy
I just get it always

Our teacher makes us write letters
To those who we love
People write love letters
I guess that’s true love

I never knew
Why we were supposed to write that letter
Not even a clue
It was a symbol for love forever

I go home
My parents have a surprise
It’s a new comb
And then together we ate fries

I don’t understand
Why we giving presents
Then we kissed each other’s hands
Those presents aren’t even worth cents

I realized the value doesn’t matter
They put hard work into that
And that is what matters
After that we had a little chat

nonfiction challenge: Five

Five entry

Five things I've learned during the pandemic:
  1. Friends are there for you, always and truly. Even if it's only online.
  2. Together we thrive (I already knew this but COVID19 confirmed it)
  3. Not everything is bad! Yay!
  4. Coronavirius germs look like broccoli
  5. How to draw anime? I guess? A little?

A friend is a friend

Friends are friends
No matter their gender

Friends are friends
No matter their race

Friends are friends
No matter their spieces

Friends are friends
No matter their anything

Friends are friends
And they are always here for you.

Together

Blinking,
The stinging cold rushing into my eyes
I'm trying to push back the past
Only feeling the present

Hiking to the top of a hill
Legs feeling like straw
I'm trying to push away the future
Only feeling the present

I need to stay where I am
And figure out the next step
I know that step...
But I can't do it alone.

Together,
We
Are
Strong.

Understand

Do you understand
Why glue doesn't stick to the inside of the bottle?

Do you understand
Why the word "abbreviation" is so long?

Do you understand
Why your feet smell and your nose runs?

Do you understand
Why apples float in the sink?

Do you understand
Life?

The Email

I logged in to my email, quickly typing my name as a shortcut. Two new emails. One of them was the email I had been waiting for; an email from YWP. I clicked on it, not expecting what was about to happen. I started to read, sort of skimming down the response. Then I saw it- The line. That one line that made me a whole lot happier. It said that my account had been approved! I was a year younger. I was 10. I gasped, and whispered, “Seriously? Is this really happening?” I jumped up and told Mom. “I got into Young Writers Project.” I explained what had happened, and even read the email. I had been really excited for my birthday, when I would turn 11 and could join YWP.

It’s finally happened, I’m here. I am really happy right now.
