Lucky

White privilege is not luck
Gender privilege is not luck
Privilege is not luck

There was no lottery system
There were no bingo cards

This system was built
To further the privilege
Of those who learned to float first

The system was built
On civilizing the savages
By adopting those “savage” ways

You’re lucky you’re white
You’re lucky you’re straight
How the hell does that work?

How can you say lucky
When you’re the ones who chose?

Dark skin does not
Inherently
Make life difficult

You Do

Penis or vagina?
Yes.
Wrong!

Says who?

You Do

This was not a luck of the draw
This was
Purposeful.
Systematic.
Savage.

This was not luck
This was not chance
This was not god

No

Unless your god
Happened to be
The men who stood
Aloft piles of the “unlucky”
To claim the higher ground

Luck is not at fault

  • Restless Energy

    I have this restless energy
That leaves me in total disarray
I’m not sure what to do with her
    What exactly could I say?

I’m not sure how I know she’s here
But it’s a feeling that builds up inside
  • Of the Chronic Sort

    Look, I understand
    you’re just trying to relate
    Pain makes you uncomfortable
    It’s a very human trait

    I am not in favor
Of the pain my body makes
And I will not be offended
If there’s not a part of you that aches
