Our Road

Life is a road

According to a lot of people.

But they like to talk about things like

The forks in the road (our decisions)

Or

The bumps on the road (little problems)

Or

What cars we share the road with (the people in our life)

What about our mountains? (our problems. the big ones.)

I am thinking about our mountains

I am thinking of every thing that keeps me up

Every night

For a week

I am thinking of being curled up

Muffled by my comforter

Anger burning my skin

I am thinking about the problems that I can’t even think about

Without my stomach hurting

I am thinking about our mountains,

How our road goes straight up and over them,

How sometimes we barely avoid them, getting rerouted at the last moment

And how so many times

We must face our mountains

Fear them

Hate them

Climb them

Consider them

And then,

Just maybe

Love them

  • Faded peace

The red truck blue truck cap

    Bright blue, not pretty

    Like dancing eyes no

This is down to business blue eyes hardened

After too many people said no

After too many yesses didn’t work out

  • She Used To Come

It was like your second cousin,

    the one who stopped coming

    to Thanksgiving

    most of the time

    but shows up sometimes

    and you remember a picture

    of her holding baby you

with blond curls and energy always
