Rain Joy

Summer rain
dances from the sky
glistening, shimmering, pure, damp.

I throw open the door
run outside.
I fling back my arms
as my soul takes off in joy.

As the diamond-droplets sit on the blades of grass,
I dance across the fields of wild flowers.
Through black-eyed susans and daisies,
daffodils and dandelions.

As with any summer rain,
the droplets eventually fade into a cool mist.
The sun peeks out from behind a smoke-gray cloud
and time comes back to me.

I realize that my clothes are soaked,
the neighbors are at their windows,
watching, wondering.

I slowly, deliberately make my way inside
where I change into dry clothes and wait.
Wait for the next rainy day,
and hope that it comes soon.
