Weekly Challenges

Create the most beautiful tree you can imagine in any medium. Or photograph a solo tree, a woodlot, a forest floor, or canopy of leaves. Celebrate trees!

Choose a time period that interests you and write a story about the way you would live in that time. What would your life be like? 

If you celebrate Thanksgiving, or you don't, write about this holiday's meaning to you. 

Write about how snow — the first snow, falling snow, heaps of snow, any kind of snow — makes you feel. Quiet, calm, happy, nostalgic? 

How do you see yourself? Make a collage, a painting, or use any other preferred medium of art to celebrate yourself.

A cinquain is similar to a haiku, being written in only five lines and restricting the number of syllables you can use. Write about anything that comes to mind, but make sure it’s in the form of a cinquain. 

Paint or draw a still life of a plant. How does the light hit this plant? Think about how you would like to portray this plant.

Create an image that evokes the feeling of relaxing in the sunshine. What does this experience feel like?

When working on their artistic abilities, people often focus on representing the human body, and hands are a challenging aspect of the body to draw. Sketch (or photograph) hands. Do they tell a story? 

Write a poem that is based around the word interior. How many different ways can you use the word? How many different meanings can you think of? What images does it conjure up?

You've taken yourself on a solo getaway to a remote island for two days. Imagine what it would be like and describe the experience.
