Weekly Challenges

Draw or paint an image of someone or something using only straight lines, squares, or rectangles. 

What are your most memorable moments of this school year? If you’re graduating, what does that feel like? 

Choose a color that dominates your landscape this time of year and share as many photographs as you can or create a collage of that color.

Write about what it would be like to be able to travel in time. Do you stay the same ‘you’ or do you change with whatever timeline you’re traveling to?

Try drawing an object, person, or pet without lifting your pen or pencil. You can also try to do this without looking at your paper. What appears? Do you notice a change in the drawings as you create more of them? Share your favorites!

Go to a place that is special to you, and in your preferred medium, capture it through your own point of view.

Imagine you are in a picturesque field. Are you surrounded by tall grass, wildflowers, or anything else? Are there animals grazing nearby? Any other people? Or just you? Using your preferred medium, capture the essence of this place.

Describe a beach experience — swimming, diving into a lake on a hot day, watching an ocean tide, finding beach glass. 

Pick a word, set a timer, and write everything that comes to mind. 

What is your favorite water sound? Crashing waves, rushing river, spring rain? Describe the sound, where you hear it, how it makes you feel. 

Draw or paint a portrait of your pet or an animal that you admire.

What do you know for sure, with absolute certainty? You can make a list or focus on one thing. Expand on it if you like, in poetry or prose. Try starting with the words, “This I know …”
