Spring's here

The day was balmy
And I was as dull as drying paint
Plastered to the walls of my mind
While the world buzzed outside my window

I distantly heard its newfound restlessness
The soft murmurs of chirping birds
As the summer breeze came and went
Like gentle waves lapping up against a sandy beach

Had the world always been this full?
People had sprouted up out of nowhere
They flocked in crowds to every sliver of life
They giggled and cooed over themselves

But I was inside
My bowl of Cheerios growing soggy on the dinner table
The low hum of the fridge
Ricocheting within the walls of my mind

  • Tomorrow

    Tomorrow I hope that
there is equity among people of all beliefs,
that our environment isn’t being destroyed by our ever-increasing emissions,
and that gun violence is a thing of the past.
  • Replaced

I tiredly stumbled down the hallway.
Gently swinging the bedroom door open.
I peer down over the paint-chipped baby blue crib.
I look into the the soft face of my son.
    He opens his eyes.
    This isn’t my son.
    Where has he gone!
  • She's beautiful

I look up at the moon.
    At her dust-covered crevices.
Her bright light guiding us through the dark.
    She circles our planet.
Perpetually moving around our beautiful earth.
    Earth's only natural satellite.
