Plenty of fish in the sea

I am not another fish
I am not here to bite your hook or to be pulled onto your boat
I'm not here to dangle from your hand like a prize in photos
To lie next to beer cans and big trucks and trophies and other fish
I am not another fish
I am not for your eyes
I am not for you to catch and release, to weigh, to hold onto
I am not here for industrial companies that poison oceans and make handbags out of polar bear cubs
And I am not here for sweet single fishermen who use organic bait and volunteer at food shelves
If I am a fish in your eyes, then you are a fisherman in mine

It was just a fluke that I happened to see

The ghost of a girl in 1893

I didn't think much of her, tried to ignore

But then she came 'round in 1894

A spirit was not something that I had wanted

Did you know that, when you wrote me, I was made of papercuts

That I was ink and glue and wax but mostly, I was papercuts

Did you know that, when you read me, I am made of memories
