Strange Feeling

One minute
Strong assuring arms wrap around my little body
Encasing me in a protective layer
Between me and the pool floor below
Slowly the embrace weakens
My bathing suit now rests
Laying ontop of a soaking wet kickboard
The arms that once held me
Now several feet away
Gabbering to each other
About who knows what
What I know is that I’m alone
So I sit and wait
Discomfort follows not long after
This stupid board is so hard
Sliding back I re-adjust my position
Boy was that a mistake
The next thing I know
Water engulfs my body
To get up one should jump
So I try
No luck
A heavy blanket of water pulls me down
Panic seizes my chest
My toes scrape the rough bottom of the pool
Eyes wide open I take in the scene
Above me large bubbles float up
Lights shine onto the surface
Casting a blinding glow into my eyes
I am far from the top
The need for air becomes more urgent
My lungs scream
Then everything slows
It almost seems…
Relaxing
My body feels no more pain
The water wraps around me gently
Folding me in it’s loose embrace
I like it
From behind hands grab me
Pulling me up, up, up
Finally we reach air
The moment snaps
Bringing me to reality
I spit water all over
Cough and cough
Crying for mom
Worried hands reach for me
Pulling me close
From there my memory is blurry
All I know is it was my sister who saved me
And ever since I dislike swimming
Scared of going down and not coming back up
Slowly I am getting better
Swimming is sometimes enjoyable now
That day I will forever remember
Never forget that sense of panic
Then the sense of calm that overtook me
Comforted me
Held me close
Such a weird occurrence
I will never understand
That strange feeling

    too much

    Sentenced

    I am guilty

    The bars which restrain me
    are but my own fault

    I am guilty

    The lifeless walls
    frozen, unfeeling
yield no give as I fight to break free

    My crimes:
    To want,

    Only A Memory

    The wind
brushes my cheek, with a kiss.
    Neck craned, my eyes
    skim the sky in bliss

    The scene before me,
    a canvas to interpret,
I stare, deep within the soul of each star
this game I refuse to forfeit.
