eclipse

She lights up the room,

ignites the fire in their souls,

so conspicuous and a fire so bright,

never missed and never misunderstood.

He holds his breath,

waiting for her to notice,

but so silent and hidden,

always missed and always misunderstood.

She crosses the room,

patches of sunshine trailing behind her,

tossing her sun-kissed hair over her shoulder,

confident with every step.

He’s right across,

black sweatshirt and faded blue jeans,

bouquets of pastel roses in his hands,

anxious as she nears him.

She glides across the room,

he waits for an answer,

she flies by him,

he anticipates her move,

their eyes

meet.
