    Autumn leaves

This year, the leaves feel new.
I have seen them every fall
as far back as I can remember,
    but this year
    the colors are different,
    more vibrant.
They stand out in a way
    that I have never seen.
I tried to take a picture

    Orange

I didn’t know the moon could be orange
Not the color of a pumpkin, not quite
Almost a pumpkin pie, but translucent
    With silver shining through

    It wasn’t full
    But made even more beautiful
    By the imperfection

    Spinning

    Spinning and spinning and spinning

Light feet, dancing on the ground
    The dangerous game of balance
One wrong step, a slip, a fall
    Streaks of colors
The same tree, over and over again

    Pink

    6:10 9/4

I never knew a sunrise could be pink.
The photos can't do it justice.

    Let’s start from the top.

Blue sky, streaked with white clouds.

A band of pale yellow, almost golden.

    Sunrise

Have you ever seen the sunrise over the mountains?
Green valley, spotted with purple lupines
Ruby red cardinal, singing in the trees
The white mountains, painted in shades of blue
Far off clouds, tinged pink underneath

    Boy or Girl

Boy or girlI see on every standardized test
    But what if I’m neither
    Or I don't know what I am
Or I don't careBoy or girlIs the question asked when I fill out those online quizzes I like
But what if it doesn't matter
