forever

It’s been 6 years.
6 years since you touched this Earth,
Walking barefoot through the grass, soaking in every last step.
6 years since you last laughed,
A laugh that reached into the depths of my soul.
6 years since our last touch,
Which could have burned the world to the ground
6 years since your last breath.

My pain is the only proof that you were ever real

We always said forever.
That I was forever,
That you were forever,
That we were forever,

I guess forever didn’t actually mean forever.

I saw a stranger I knew very well today.

What a strange phenomenon to call them a stranger.

Countless hours spent locked in their embrace,
Trapped by the warmth, the tenderness, the familiarity,
  • his air

    His air is still here.

It’s in the gust of wind that blows the leaves off of trees,
It’s in the gale that pushes winter’s first snow onto rooftops,
It’s in the rush of air carrying pollen from flower to flower,
