Vermont Youth Poet Laureate: Submissions Open

Vermont teen poets: You are invited to submit a portfolio of your original poetry and a CV that highlights your artistic and community impact for an opportunity to become the state's next Youth Poet Laureate!

There is a $500 cash prize, monthly workshop opportunities with some of America's top poets, a broadside print, and performance opportunities. 

Submissions:

  • Open to Vermont youth, ages 13-19
  • Feb. 1 - 28, 2025
  • No entry fee

The Vermont Youth Poet Laureate program, now in its second year, is presented by YWP's partner, Sundog Poetry, and the National Youth Poet Laureate Program's founding organization, Urban Word. Please go to sundogpoetry.org/vypl for full details about the Vermont program. Here are some highlights:

The Laureate receives:

  • $500
  • Invitation to regional competition
  • Public readings in Vermont
  • A commemorative broadside print of an original poem

All finalists receive:

  • Invitation to participate in national workshops with some of America’s most celebrated poets

Finalists will be selected in April and the winner and runners-up will be announced during a live stream from the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. 


Harmony Belle Devoe of Warren, VT, is the 2024 Vermont Youth Poet Laureate in the program's inaugural year. Finalists for the honor included YWP's Grace Batsie, Maelyn Slavik, and Roma Vallabhaneni.
