Minnesota Strong

Thousands of people filled the streets of Minneapolis-St. Paul on Jan. 23, peacefully and in sub-zero weather, to protest against ICE and show solidarity with their neighbors. “We are meeting ICE violence with nonviolence,” Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, said at the demonstration. “We are meeting their chaos and cruelty with passion and community."

The next day, federal agents shot and killed Alex Pretti, 37, a Minneapolis nurse. His death follows the fatal shooting of Renee Good, who was also 37 when she was killed by U.S. Border Patrol on Jan. 7. Both were U.S. citizens. Pretti was the third person shot by federal agents during their weeks-long immigration crackdown in Minnesota. If you're moved to write, consider sending a message of support to Minnesota or share your thoughts on ICE's actions in this state.
