the key to me

my heart is locked,

and i'm keeping it for you.

the chain wrapped around it

still remains from the last time

it shattered.

i build up my mountains,

and my defenses in my mind.

my hands have been tied

behind my back

since birth.

trust is taking them down,

and ripping them like wrapping paper.

it's throwing the thorns aside

like i'm locked away in a castle

waiting to be saved.

but my bricks were broken through,

and pounded apart to pieces.

heartbreak can be mended with mortar

slathered on in thick coats

of grief.

losing yourself can never be healed,

and patched up like a quilt.

you'll keep holding onto that blanket,

the one glimmer of hope

until you die.

there are bars that surround me,

and cage up love every single day.

come along like the lost bird

singing it's sorrow call

breaking free.

free is the feeling of looking at the sunrise,

and being okay with the day to come.

maybe the sun is bright,

and blinding

but it's better.

alone is being in a room with you,

and talking about your favorite book.

you own the key to all of my love,

and all of this disaster,

read the next chapter.

We run back to your house,

    The lights are still on,

And they cover your freckled face,

    Like it's the sun.

    The grass brushes our feet,

And the wind catches in your hair,

We sit out on the sand,

    The fog covers the sky,

    And blankets the world,

    Like a shield.

The waves nip at our feet,

    The water's cold

But I'm warm because you hold my hand,

    We stand on the dock,

    The sun has set,

But I can see your happiness

Even in the dead of night.

    The streetlight's on,

    The metal is all rusted

    And covered in salt,
