Hey welcome to my first post! This art was kind of inspired by Korn’s album Issues since I was actually listening to it while trying to come up with an idea. I don’t know if anyone on here has listened to this album or any of Korn’s music, but it is an amazing band to listen to. They’re songs have helped me through so many things in my life. I tried showing in this art how some people who have depression caused by many different problems will become addicted to something to try and fix the pain. I made the paper surrounding the girl symbolize all this pain and sadness and the matches as an addiction. I tried showing on the colorful side how an addiction can make someone feel temporarily. Basically: if you try burning your problems away, all your left with is smoke, which can be worse. Also the name is a mash up of the phoenix (the mythical fire bird) which is a symbol of wisdom and peace, and the cassowary which is considered the most dangerous bird. I tried to show with the title that people who are usually peaceful can be controlled by addictions and be looked at as dangerous due to their addictions being harmful to them and others around them. I don’t usually try to make my art have serious meanings, so this is sort of my first time doing this. I hope you guys enjoy :)
