Influenced by the story of Ugolino and His Sons, I wanted to depict the struggle Ugolino feels and the impossible decision between starvation or cannibalism. The chaotic background and rough brush strokes brings the depth inside his emotions and the accentuation of his eye area and muscles creates this haunting tension to this piece.
