lying down on the rocky ground of western Colorado
and looking up at what the vast darkness of the unknown has granted us tonight
an ache fills my lungs as my eyes take in the beauty of the millions of lights dotting the sky
holding my hand out for another, and fingers intertwine,
innocence and friendship, and an unspoken string of thoughts we both seem to understand
a liqud star forms in the glimmer of my eye and sneaks its way down the soft surface of my face
a deep breath in, the taste of safety and spontaneity
a smell of pine and rainfall
wondering how i could possibly be under the same sky as him, yet never with him
the stars whisper secrets to the earth
a thread of hope
an empty promise of life and love
something seems missing, yet everything is just how it is supposed to be
the moon is missing its glow, now just a sliver in a sky of pain and blue
stargazing, a privilege for those who know how to decode the stories written on the dark page of the atmosphere
meaningless as it may be, a story always holds truth, so the stars must hold some as well
but i can't tell, while i'm lying on the cold ground late at night, surrounded by a sky of glittering sparkles littered throughout tonight's page,
a new chapter.
