I was a withered flower,
Whose petals were so dry.
You were a ball of fire,
Whose smile lit up my sky.
As time kept on moving,
You heard my silent cry.
You looked down at me,
And wondered why.
For you gave me light,
Way up high,
But I still sat here,
Ready to die.
You knew the reason,
And said goodbye.
You hid yourself,
Like a secret spy.
A dance of water
Hit my eye.
You helped so much—
I can’t deny.
Come back to me soon,
I won’t be so shy.
And when you smile,
I’ll wave and say hi.
For you hid yourself,
But rain shone my way.
I am forever grateful
To you this day.

This is a great example of communicative and moving poetry that comes from a very simplistic rhyme scheme. There is an absence of "big words," but you don't always need to use a complex vocabulary to produce something that makes you FEEL. In fact, there's something tidy and succinct in the pairing of your words that works to strengthen this piece. Well done!
