Change - A Sestina

The forest is preparing for winter.

Animals collect food

as they prepare to stay cozy in their dens.

The snow will for sure fall soon.

Blanketing the hills and valleys in silence

as the animals and people sleep through the night.

Sometimes a long night

may feel like winter

as all you can hear is the dark skies silence.

And your stomach starts to growl as it thinks of breakfast and food.

But if you wait long enough the morning will for sure come soon,

and you may eat your breakfast finally having left your den.

You sleep at night in bed like animals sleep through winter in their den.

Winter can have the longest nights

feeling like the morning will not come soon.

Although it can be long and dark there is also a joy to winter:

cozy times before a fire eating warm food,

the crackling of flames, the only sound that breaks the silence.

And occasionally a laugh or chuckle throughout the silence,

that reminds you that you're not alone in your den.

And you can warm yourself after coming in from the cold with food.

And know that even the darkest night

will eventually come to an end like winter.

And spring will come soon.

You will be playing on green grass soon.

Nights no longer filled with silence

like they were in winter.

And you will no longer feel trapped in your den

as you may have once felt throughout the long night.

Now by the river, as you swim, you will eat fresh cold and invigorating food.

When you feel upset you can focus on the positives of life like food.

And you will feel better soon.

As hardships will come to an end just as the night.

And the sounds of silence

may sometimes fill your den.

But now you are not alone as you think of sleeping animals that surround you in winter.

It may feel that things will last forever, like night, but know morning and food will come.

For the winter will end soon,

and the silence will once again be broken in your den.
