A Cottage of Wonder

I walk past the bookstore moneyless. My library doesn't have the book I'm wanting, and it will take a while for the order to come in. I yearn for a new book to gift me with pleasure. I continue walking throigh the shopping plaza, jealous of the people with bags of books and clothing while my wallet has nothing. Not even flies! I speed walk, my eyes glaring at the sidewalk. Suddenly, a white cloth blankets my mouth and nose. Darkness devours my vision.

I wake up, the moon blooming with light. I lay on a stone pathway, surrounded by lime green grass which has been freshly cut. Uphead a cottage made up of cobblestone and wood appears in the moonlight. Two woven baskets full of ivy hang underneath two stained glass windows. The window on the left has a picture of whimsical fairy, while the other is a picture of a dying rose in a book. Flowers such as, primroses, daisies, sunflowers, violets, roses, and foregt-me-nots hug the side of the cottage. I spot a clock tower on the roof of this mysterious place. I approach the black arched door with an orange slice-shaped window. I turn the knob, and cautiously walk in.

Inside the place is as large as a football field, possibly larger. Walls of books fifteen feet high stretch on for miles, or so it seems. Curled stairways wrapped in soft, lilac carpenting bring out the smooth, wooden rails. I look down and see I'm standing on a glass floor. Statues of my favorite book characters like, Katniss Everdeen, Finnick Odair, Mateo Torres, Lucy Gray Baird, Uriah, Marina, Sam Goode, Six, Eight, Nine, Leo Valdez, Nico di Angelo, Hazel Levesque, Annabeth Chase, and so many more reside in this library. There are even statues of the mighty Greek gods and goddesses as well. I race up one of the staricases and begin flipping through the pages of different books. Many of the books I glimpse through seem to be of different fictions. Fantasy, dystopian, sci-fi, realistic fiction and historical. Authors such as, Ray Bradbury, Suzanne Collins, Sarah J. Maas, Veronica Roth, Rick Riordan, Wilson Rawls, and many more authors I love, their books fill the library. The smell of books consumes me in comfort. Built in speakers in the walls can play white noise, nature sounds, sleep beats, and any song of my desire. Ivy hangs in the same woven baskets on the walls. I find books of poetry from authors like Edgar Allen Poe and Homer. I gently collect books I'm interested in reading or rereading. I find a loft with the softest bed ever inside along with a plush, black couch. Fairy lights hang on the ceiling of the loft. A ceiling fan resides on the ceiling as well.

As I begin to read I notice a door behind the couch. I walk up to the door and open it. Inside another staircase dressed in lilac carpeting leads up to somewhere. I stroll up the staircases until I reach a wooden arched door. Opening the door I'm instantly dipped in moonlight. I walk out onto a patio on the roof of the library. Fairy lights hang on iron rails, and in the middle of the concrete floor, is a beige couch circling a fire pit. Over the railing in the backyard, willow trees seclude me from the outside world. One willow tree has a swing on it by a pond with koi fish, lily pads, and frogs. Two more places for me to relax and read. A hot tub, pool, and grill with an island are also on the rooftop patio. I realize this library isn't an ordianry library, it's also a place to live! I silently thank whoever left me here. I've been taken to a living dream. I plop on the couch, excited about my new life.

Oh, why must my bitter cold soul devour my box of warmth,
my murderous, snow-white hair pointing north?
The hikers that dare set foot on my icy ridges,
they shall burn you like scolding, lava-like bridges.
