along the banks of creeks and streams,
sleeping beneath just inches of soil,
sucking on the roots of willow trees and the
sap strewn from a mid-march maple tree,
nested in the wooden wands of an ancient redwood,
a pile of fallen leaves and weeds
growing scraggly like teeth,
is their home
a constant flow of water dancing atop smoothened rocks
sinking underground when it meets soft sand,
giving life and a home to billions of bugs and beings
per square inch of forest floor
cocooned in the hands of a fennel flower,
rests the children of the forest,
watercolored eucalyptus skin peeled back by human hands,
exposing it’s delicate inside to the eyes of shaded air
after the summer sun sets,
under purple skies and yellow waxing and waning moons
the heart and pulse of the forest beats loud and clear
for all of the world to feel
can you hear it, see it, feel it?
it's the lungs of the earth sized organism
breathing in and out, in and out
she is wide awake
reminding you where your roots once grew,
where your thoughts once spewed like
the leaves stemming off from branches
she is waiting here always for you to come pay a visit, to
come say hello to the forest creatures
