“Okay class, make sure to find your partners for the group project. If you dont I will pair you myself,” Mrs. Hamble said.
Ugh group projects. I dislike them with a pasion. You get partnered and you have to “work together” and most of the time you are the one left doing it all alone. And to top it off you're supposed to make a replica of something dangerous in the world.
After class school is out. On my way to my locker this girl is clad in a hot pink sundress with her hair in a messy bun with white converse walks over to me.
“Hi! I’m Sarah! We are in science together,” she said cheerfully.
“Uhm hi,” I said a little sarcastically.
“Anyway, I was wondering if you had a partner for the project? If you don't do you want to work-”
“No.”
And then I walked away.
Sarah
Science finishes. I’m in a fight with my friends so I have no partner for the project. I scan the hallway to find someone in my science class that might be my partner. Then I see her. In black jeans black sweatshirt and blue converse with hair down. The new girl. I introduced myself then asked.
“Anyway, I was wondering if you had a partner for the project? If you don't do you want to work-”
“No.”
And then she walked away.
The next day I stopped her in the hall before she got into class.
“Yesterday I was trying to ask if you wanted to be partners in the science group project. I don't know if you are here in a rush so when you said no I wanted to double check."
She paused, then spoke, “No I meant it.”
“Do you already have a partner?”
“No,” she answered.
“Then why not?” I'm a little hurt. But I tried not to let it show.
“Because. We are completely different. You're all cupcakes and rainbows and I am not into that. So excuse me, I have class.”
Then she walks away from me again.
Molly
“Okay class. I hope you have a partner because if you dont I will pair you myself. Raise your hand if you have a partner.” Ms. Hamble scans the room and looks at me. Oh no!
“Molly, do you not have a partner?” she asks.
“Umm, no.”
“Oh, I see Sarah has no partner. You two will work together! Perfect, you all can go to your groups and start your research!” she says too excited. But I'm not, I got the rainbows and sunshine girl.
Sarah
Great, I am partnered with Molly. I walk across the room. Not a happy might I add.
“Okay what are your ideas?” I ask.
“No.”
“Did you take notes?”I sigh.
“No.”
“Is that your favorite word or something?” I am annoyed.
“Is asking too many questions your favorite thing?” She asks ready to fight.
“Let's just talk about the project from now on. Keeping my grades good is crucial to me,” I offer. And she agrees.
We decided to do a volcano for the project. Simple, easy, and you can split the work for some parts. Which is fine by me.
Molly
By the third day we started talking. Not only about the project. It was kinda nice talking about my move and all that. But I did not let Sarah know that.
“I’m actually having fun being partnered with you,” she splurts.
“Oh,” I say.
“It's fine if you're not. I just wanted you to know.” She smiles.
“You know what. I am having fun too.”
“Friends?” she asks.
“Friends.”
