I think that being immortal would be pretty torturous, never being able to pass away could cause you to descend into madness. Just observing all of your loved ones as they age and die. You would be stuck having to watch the world distort and everyone else get to live their lives and die knowing you can’t. You’d lose feelings of humanity, which without them would certainly cause anyone to lose their mind. During your eternity roaming the earth, you’d be trying so hard to seize that feeling of being human that you’d lose all connection to it. But I also wonder if you’d develop a sort of other consciousness. Being immortal can drive someone to immense isolation because if you get close to someone you’ll just lose them eventually. So instead you rely on yourself, and slowly you just start to develop people inside your head. Like imaginary friends except they feel so legitimate that you can’t tell the difference. This is something I’ve wondered about a lot. As well as how being immortal affects your body aside from just your mind. Would I continue aging forever? There are so many ways that being immortal could play out. But I know that I most definitely do not want to be immortal.
