nightmare

i see you 
standing there
upon the ledge

i want to run to you
but i am frozen
and my legs
no longer work

so i scream
and tears are
runnning down
my cheeks

my chest is on fire
and i gasp for air

blood flows 
from your lips
and mine

we will never
make it out alive

you flicker
and you fall
tumbling down
in to the sea below

my tears are red
and my heart is dead

we knew that we
would never
make it out alive

but it burns like fire
it freezes like ice
it tears me apart
and it rips out my heart

it still beats 
but not for long
fling it over the edge
in to the sea

no longer breathing
i stagger and fall
trying to grasp at nothing

the scene disolves
it all turns to mist

my blood 
my tears
none of it is real

all that is left
is darkness
and i think i am
suffocating in it

i thrash and flail
my arms and legs
but i am tangled

i don't know where i am
but i think i might be drowning

how much longer
will this horror last?

eventually i surface
and find myself
on the floor

i am tangled
in my own bedding
but i am not on my bed
i must have fallen

it cannot be possible
it all felt so real

the blood 
the tears
the screaming

it was only a nightmare
but it was real to me
not just a dream

i lost you
but i will not
lose you again
