Old Photos

In old photos, you almost never see color.

You think of the world the picture has captured as plain, like shadows on an opaque backdrop.

You don't think about the gory red stains, seeping into the earth of a deserted battlefield.

You don't see the green-tinged slashes, crawling with infection, or the dark, swollen bruises.

You don't think about the gem-like colors of the caps and gowns depicted in a yellowing poster.

You don't see the golden fields of wheat, glinting in the midday sun.

Or the bright blue eyes of an orphaned child, full of concealed pain and suffering.

In old photos, you almost never see color.
