“Read the letter.”
I picked the letter up
And I saw the words
“Come to our party!”
I’d rather not.
Who cares about balloons and alcohol
Confetti and those girls
Smiling at me.
Who wants that noisy atmosphere
The music blaring at its height
The outfits that barely cover anything.
Maybe me
But not there.
There it is girls
Who smile at me slyly.
I’d rather go to my escape
A place where guys say hi
A place where my friends don’t go
A place nobody knows I go
And I’d like to keep it that way.
There I can be in a corner
Reading a good book
A faded halloween cup in my hands
Hot chocolate and marshmallows
And maybe a bar
Of chocolate.
And maybe a someone more
Reading over my shoulder
His head resting on mine
As I hear his
Calm
Quiet
Heartbeat.
I rip the letter up.
I’m going to the party
I lie.
I head to the place of refuge
And safety.
Thank you
I whisper
To the place.
