School

I miss the drive to school
a peaceful time
where my mom and I
could talk freely
without siblings 
interrupting

I miss the time
before school began
when everyone
was just hanging out
leaning against lockers
chatting carelessly

I miss the bell
and how it
structured our days  
telling us when
to go to our classes
and releasing us afterward

I miss the announcements
and how the students
read them in
overly cheery voices
reminding us to 
Make it a great day

I miss my teachers
ever so much
how they guided us
through the lessons
and answered
all our questions

I miss my friends
most of all
and how we sat together
every day during lunch
and talked about
the strangest things

I miss school
and though when I'm there
I want to be home
now that I'm home
I want to be there
more than ever
