I am a dying star
Don’t mourn me, I am quite far.
For countless years, I have burned with light
Through the warm day and velvet night
I gave my golden breath
To fend off the dark
Don’t cry
I won’t be there tomorrow.
I saw how your world shaped below
Through cold ice and black ash
I saw you bloom
I watched you from the beginning
Your dreams drift up towards the sky.
My gaze over the oceans and fields
The forests and cities with dawn-lit haze.
I watched your laughter and heard your cries.
Each morning, I rose without fail
And set to guide your sail
Sadly, stars are not eternal
And that is why I must leave
As my time has come.
Still, don’t feel sorrow when I go
You were the one who needed my light
That is all I know
I ask for nothing
Except my dying wish.
Don’t let the forests die
Don’t silence birds who chirp with delight
Let rivers run clean
Let nature live, and children may dream.
My light will disappear, but promise me this
It is my final, fading gift.
