Thunder roared in the dark night sky, lightning the only source of light. Rain fell hard onto the roof like bullets, screams of terror throughout the city. The dead had risen and were out for flesh, the rotting corpses bringing a horrible smell. However, in an apartment building there was a woman, sitting in fear on her couch as she covered her ears to try and shield herself from the screams and cries. Her curly, ginger hair was up in a tight bun, still only wearing a simple tank top and sweatpants. She was getting ready for bed like any other night, exhausted from a long day at work, but now she sat up, fearing for her life.
Nadia sat in fear on her small leather couch, her hands shielding her ears from the sounds of the dead feasting on people’s flesh right outside her door in the hallway of her apartment building as it stormed outside. Just a few hours ago everything was normal. She didn’t understand what had happened between her ride from work to home. She had turned off all her lights and closed the curtains to make sure no one would notice her. The only thing on was the TV, set to the news. The screen was static, that awful noise ringing in her ears. It had been only an hour after it all began, after the world had ended with the dead rising and feasting on living people.
Checking her phone, she realized there was no reception. She was in England, studying to become a nurse. Nadia was a smart woman, always had been since she was a young child, rationalizing everything with science, but this; this she couldn’t wrap her mind around. Why were the dead suddenly reanimated? Why were they out for the flesh and organs of living, breathing people?
