Stealing Food

Sneaking
on silent toes
making sure that
no one hears 
my footsteps as
I walk through
the kitchen

Silently 
opening the box
and grabbing
whatever is inside
and holding it
carefully concealed
in my hand

Hearing
siblings running 
down the hall
shoving my stolen treat
and swallowing it 

Choking
on a treat
that I shouldn't have
but somehow
not getting caught
with the guilty crumbs
flying from my lips

Escaping
to a hidden place
where I can eat in peace
and leaving
with an innocent
expression
on my face
