The Sticker-Covered Book

Blip

A memory

A flashback

I see me from a few years ago

Coming into my house

To find my once sticker-covered door to my room

Nearly blank

I rush over to the door, asking why

Wishing I could keep the stickers

Maybe I could…

I grab the only thing I can.

A book about a video game.

I grab the stickers that will come off easily.
In a panic I throw them on the book

Until there is no room.

Now I stare at the old sticker-covered book

I’d wanted those stickers

Not for the joy they gave me

But for the memories.
Months later I would move

I would move to my new home which I love very much

And I think

How far I’ve come

How long it’s been

The good times

The bad times

The laughter

The friends I’d made on the way

And I look

At the sticker-covered book.

“When you’re living on your knees you rise up.”

Some people are on their knees because

    They’re bowing down to him.

Some people are on their knees because

    They’re hopeless.

    Here, take my hand.
