Today in Humanities
we began to write
our speeches
for our Human Impact Project
and I wondered how
our speeches will be presented
now that we're all stuck at home
and how we're supposed to impact people
if we have to stay 6 feet away
There are many options
that the teachers have considered
the easiest of which
is not presenting the speeches at all
which would be stupid
since we still have to write them
We could also present them
via Google Meet,
which could go wrong
in so many different ways:
bad wifi
bad audio
loud siblings or pets
the list goes on and on.
Maybe we could video them
which doesn't seem too hard
you get ultimate redos and retries
you can try until you get it right
it sounds really great
until you remember that Gmail
won't send anything over 1 byte.
I really don't care how we do it
as long as it works somehow
and as long as someone
anyone
hears the speech I've prepared
because I refuse to write
a speech that will never be heard
A speech that never is heard
is like a sweater that is bought
and then is immediately
thrown out
before anyone gets to use it
it's a waste
The entire point of a sweater
is to be worn at some point or another
and similarly the whole point of a speech
is to be heard at some point or another
So I won't write a speech
if I'm not to be heard
and if I am made to write one
I will read it to every family member I have
my brother
my sister
my mom
my dad
and of course both of my dogs
I'll call up my uncles
my cousins
my aunts
and both sets of grandparents as well
because my speech will be heard
by someone
anyone
everyone
My speech
will not
go to waste
it will not be thrown away
unheard
