Wish summary of chapter 1

With a little bit of luck, you can get exactly what you wished for. Charlie Reese has been wishing for the same thing ever since fourth grade. She and her older sister, Jackie, have been through parent conflicts, cold shoulders, and having to move out. While Jackie got to stay with her best friend, Charlie had to stay with a couple she doesn't even know. So even though Charlie complained about a gazillion times, the social worker just said, "Gus and Bertha are kin". So here she is, in Colby, North Carolina, stuck with a bunch of hillbilly kids that probably eat squirrels for lunch. On her first day of school, her teacher gives her a "get to know you paper". First question. How is your family, "Bad". What is your favorite subject in school, "None". Then came the last question, "List three of your favorite hobbies". She wrote, fighting, soccer, and ballet. But only the fighting part is true. Jackie inherited Daddy's inky, dark black hair. But she inherited his raging fire temper. And she also doesn't need a magical ball to know that at this moment, Mama is in bed drinking soda and trotting around the house in her bathrobe. Then she gave the paper to Mrs. Willibey and watched as she read it, the corners of her teacher's mouth twitched, and her face turned red. Then Mrs. Willibey called out to a boy named Howard, who had big, ugly black glasses and walked like one leg was shorter than the other. She said, "Howard, why don't you be Charlie's backpack buddy for some time". My stomach twisted. CHAPTER 1 DONE
