Masquerade

I like that masquerade you’ve got going on.

That mask of anger

The veil of despair

That dress of honesty

That necklace of loyalty

Don’t forget the face cream made of dignity

And the concealer made of lies

The blended blush of confusion

And the eyeliner and mascara made of woe.

What?

Don’t get me wrong,

Your disguise is good

But I prefer natural beauty

To this fake charade you’ve put on.

You are not angry

Or sad

Or honest

Or loyal

You have no dignity

You don’t love lies

You see things clearly

And once again;

You are not sad.

But in order to get pity

And help

And a kind word or two from a friend

Apparently you need to fake it.

Are they really your friends?

Why can’t you laugh

And lie

And insult yourself in jest

Why can’t you be clumsy

And lie poorly

And know what you want?

Oh;

I have overstepped

And given you hope

My goodness;

I hope you can recover.

  • Succulent

    There is a small plant that sits on the corner of my life.

    It is a tough little plant;
    I have not watered it.
    I do not give it soil, but I do take it, and throw it to the wind.
  • List

    You succeeded but you failed
    You succeeded but you failed
    You succeeded
    You succeeded but you failed

    You are above their bar and below yours
    You survived but you do not celebrate

    They say you reached for the stars.
  • Dying songbird

    Please don't leave me, you dying songbird.

    Your song is still beautiful, no matter the notes, no matter the order
    Please don't leave your rusting cage via shoebox, friend.
