why would you say that?

sitting in class, you next to me. i dont like you. didnt like you beforehand at all. You gte on my nerves. you dont pay attention. you are, as my father would say, "wilfully ingnorant". the teacher asks the class. "How many books could you read in nine weeks?"

i pause. well, i thought. i read fast, maybe two books each week, for nine weeks? so, 18 books. i write it down.

you look at my page. i see the thoughts before they form in your mind. 

how?

a thousand times over, i have heard the words. every time i tell them.

i read
i write
i draw
i love to

he stairs me dead in the eyes

and says the words

"oh, you must be boring."

What makes me furious?
It's not the magazines and pop-culture that influence us all in such negative ways.
With all of the pictures of what "beauty" is, followed by an article about just how to starve yourself to look just like the model.
No, its not that. 
Its not the ungodly number of mass murders and terrorist attacks.
All caused by misunderstood madmen who have slipped under every ones radar
No, its not that.
Its not the fact that the world forces us to try so hard to be perfect
Even though we all know that perfect is impossible. 
What makes me furious?
It's that all of those things and more keep happening.
And I haven't done anything to stop it.
What makes me furious is the fact that there is nothing I can do.
And nothing is exactly what I do.
That's what makes me furious.

Recently, I lived in a developing country. Now that I live in a small safe European country, my peers have been asking questions about my former country. Most of the questions range between "Did you ever meet a drug dealer?" "Were you ever robbed?" "How dangerous/scary was it to live there?".
This is my answer to all questions. Mexico was an incredible place to live. It was vibrant and colorful, full of helpful, kind people who would listen to me when I stammered through my Spanish. Culture was everywhere. From celebrations and festivals on holidays to intricate creations in a potter's home, Mexico was gorgeous.
Yes, people were poor and starving, begging at corners for money. But that gives you all the more reason to help them. Yes, it was dangerous in some areas at some times. We were restricted from traveling to certain cities, had bars on our windows, and had an alarm set when we left the house. But not everyone or everywhere was dangerous.

politics really piss me off
because united we stand
but this country is divided
into factions of asses and elephants
and i would really rather be
Independent but that's a clique too


ideas and hope for change
are rejected or accepted
according to party of origin
the fault lies with those liberals
or maybe the conservatives caused it
or maybe WE NEED TO LOSE THE SUB-LABELS
and just be American.
