“Camille run faster!” My father yelled to me as I sprinted to the basement doors with Holly in hands. I hear the winds howling, chasing me from a distance. Holly hissed in distress but there was no way to keep her quiet. A few more meters. The chickens screamed and the pigs wailed. My heart pounded heavily as the earth shifted below me. “Camille!” I focus on my father. His bright blue ocean eyes were now a solemn grey. As soon as I was in arms length of my father, he held me and holly close as he slammed and locked the basement doors. “Camille.” A tear fell from his cheek and onto mine.

    “Its okay father. Holly and I are here.” We walked down the basement stairs and into the shelter. I saw my older brother Cameron and my mother sitting in a corner holding hands. I placed Holly down on a flour bag and she tensley curled up. As I walked to my mother and brother my mother's hands grabbed my shoulder and pulled me in to her. Her hands were shaky, cold and weak. I wrapped my warm sweaty palm around here's hoping to heal her.

    “My children, im scared.” My mother looked down at her dress. Her dress was dirty from sitting on the dirt flooring. Cameron kissed my mother's cheek.

    “Mother our family is strong. Whatever’s damaged can easily be restored.” My father joined us. “Camille can sell extra eggs from our chickens.” My brother tried to smile but failed. “When the piglets are born I will sell our fine beasts to the richest of owners.”

    “Cameron, thank you.” My mother smiled. Holly got down from the flour bag and spoke profusely. The house rattled and you could hear the brass pans fall from the rack to the kitchen floor. You could hear cabinets open and slam as if someone kicked them with all they could. Then you could hear the roofs stitching slowly break apart. One by one the stitching unfurled until you could hear a big ripping noise and then wind canceling out our screams.

    “I'm going out!” My father screamed at the top of his lungs.

    “No father!” I screamed hoping my plead would get through to him. As he slowly walked to the basement doors he waved us goodbye. We started crying for him to come back. “Father! Father! No please father!” He unlocked the doors and opened them. A bursting cloud of wind took our breath away as he stepped out.

    “Holly no!” Cameron screamed as Holly raced for my father.

    “Baby no!” My mother screamed as I got up and chased for Holly. I broke through the basement doors and instantly got blown to the ground.

    “Holly! Holy!” I saw Holly from the distance and crawled towards her. As I grabbed Holly's collar I saw my dad clutching to a wooden post on our house. “Father!”

    “Camille! Go back!”

    “Father I can't leave you!” His eyes darkened.

    “Camille I might not make it, but I want to be able to know that you did.” With that I struggled against the bearing winds, digging my nails into the earth. I made sure Holly was tight in my grasp as she struggled to get to my father.

    “Holly stay.” Holly spoke louder. As I got to the basement I could barely see the door handles with my hair flowing throughout my face. I lifted my body and let myself fall into the shelter closing behind me. As soon as I hit the floor I started to fade.

    “Camille!” My mom grabbed me and I held tight.

    “I need to sleep.”

    “Okay baby.” As I succumbed to the black fuzz I heard rattling and felt the earth shake more and more. The wind grew louder. I knew our life was destroyed.
