Benediction

You were my benediction

The night would befall me swiftly

And you would scoop me up to hold tightly

Cradle

Like a baby

Like I was yours

And now I sit by candle light lamenting my malfeasances

My culpable tongue stretched taught in my hands

My turned back twisted like a strand of DNA

And now I know I was the snake

My twisted bones squeezing the love out of you til your sanguine mouth dripped it’s last breath

It’s last bated breath

It’s last love for me

I sincerely hope you are happy

Sitting by a campfire with your baseball cap

Enjoying the crackling in the iron and the bullfrogs in the pond and the crickets with their little violins

I hope you are happy

I just hope I can be happy too

Happy Away from You.

Red baby holds the pen in his ink spot hand

I watch him as the line forms thinly-veiled bugs

    “They’re getting married” he says
