I stand still, confused,

My eyebrows furrow as they stands in front of me

With bright smiles.

The air lights up with their presence, 

Dancing in the sun,

Down is the pool and everywhere are the eyes,

Both consume but only one can lie.

An oasis to some is water,

But he feels its heart.

Too loud it thumps,

The remembrance of my body betraying me,

Trembles my slewing stomach,

My rib cage crumbles at each ragged breath,

With warm flesh dragging against the moist air.

The fluids are slushing through my veins, 

Creeping through my blood, through my thoughts, 

Through each word I speak. 

The four gas stations on each of the corners

Hover over the town,

But they don’t define it.

It doesn’t define us,

Neither does the churches

With clipped voices and narrowed eyes.

Four more months till the lines of work-

The coding of my life in word form-

Molds into a steel cage.

The cage's walls lined with a maze of puzzles,

Answers tucked between my ears.
