After

After you left I packed your things in a box and put it in my closet
Tangible things
The sweatshirt you wore when we kissed
The blanket I held you under
Tangible things
The memories of you were harder
They were too big to be crammed together
So I let them be
Slowly they started to collect dust in the crevices of my mind
Soon I couldn't remember the color of your eyes
Or the sound of your laugh
But I didn't miss you
I didn't crave you like I used to
I took out all of the tangible things and mourned you
The loss of you
And I was okay

  • obsessed

you were obsessed with the taste of my lips
you loved the smell of my perfume
you said my eyes were beautiful

    when you left

i wanted to cut off my lips and give them to you
i wanted to give you my perfume
  • your view

you tell me the view is beautiful
    you never want to leave
you tell me that I would love it

    my shoulders still have bruises
you used my body as a ladder
    climbing farther and father
    I couldn’t see you anymore
  • earthly pleasures

maybe one day I will walk the earth again
bare feet, the mud between my toes
maybe one day I'll hold your hand again
    pulling you close to me
maybe one day I will see your face again
the one who taught me about love
