she had glitter on her cheekbones

raindrops on the window screen

she smiles, forces a laugh

earrings catch what little light there is

and then, a crack of lightening

splitting the sky into billions of shards

a mirror falls to the ground

crows watch wearily from outside

her chin in her hand, as if painted into a portrait

and chaotic spirits fill the pages of her notebook

which lies at her feet
