Batman Toasters

Batman toasters gave me you.

They gave me a best friend

who laughed with me when no one else would

and ran away from the wasps during recess

(we always went near the fence/shade from trees)

and laughed with me as I made a song

in a country accent

about Henry Hudson

"who was a dead dude that died"

They gave me each crinkled eye

and genuine smile

as we wiggled our loose teeth

while debating if it was better to loose teeth

at home or school

(because we loved those treasure chests they would give

us to keep the teeth)

And each time our teacher

droned on for an our straight

practically shining a neon sign saying

"if you're not my favorite, I hate you"

and we laughed when the math problems

looked funny or our names were used

in the word problems (rare but true).

I love you

as my best friend

even as I get more

and we drift into different

paths because I will always text you

non-stop about something funny that happened in

4th period

or if someone called me a "ugly Swedish girl"

because I wore glasses this one day

even though they said I looked really pretty with glasses

just the week before

(we'll call that rage baiting at best)

Even as I get more close friends

you are my BFF and no one can change

that because we are like two pieces of Batman toast.

Two pieces of toast come out

of the same toaster-

we are the only two pieces

to our puzzle-

 you are my

second wheel to a motorcycle

(like the bright pink one we always talk about getting one day for fun)

and/or the chip that fused with another chip.

Batman agrees.
