That boy (A story I am working on)

Chapter 1:  The School of Magic

Juni was so excited.  It was the day before school was starting. She would be able to say good riddance to her city, full of art and crazy people like her parents.  Yes, it was not Juni’s first year at the School of Magic; she was in her eighth year, and doing well, too. Juni picked up her computer from where it was sitting on her orange armchair.  She opened up her SkyApp account. She wanted to post a photo from her recent trip to maine. Her mum’s grandmother owned a lake house there. Juni was rudely interrupted by a knock on her door.
“What?” she whined.
“Are you packed for school yet?”  It was Mum.
“No…” June admitted, looking at her half-packed suitcase.
“Get a move on!  Friends are coming over for dinner, and we leave for your school early in the morning.”  Mum walked back downstairs.
Juni rolled off her bed, and stuffed her school books, uniforms, and supplies into her suitcase.  She wiped her brow and took out her journal.  So many thoughts had been swirling in her brain, and she had to get them out. Hours went by, with Juni sitting in her bed, writing and writing and writing.
“Juni!” Mama shouted. “The neighbors are getting here in five!”
Juni reluctantly put down her pencil and “got nicer.”
Juni leaped down the stairs, smiling from the smell of lamb and spices.  These new neighbors must be worth a whole lot of impressing!  Juni’s moms were in the kitchen; one was making drinks and the other was arranging flowers.
“There you are!” Mum said. “Get the forks.”  Juni grabbed the forks and set the table.
“Juni,” Mama called.  “Can you wait on the porch?”
“Sure.” Juni went to the porch and sat on the swing, watching as various people walked by with their dogs.  A little while later, Juni looked up when four people came walking up the stairs on the porch.
“Hello!  I’m Juni,” she said as she jumped up and opened the door for their guests.
“Nice to meet you,” the older man said.  “I’m Matthew; this is my wife, Ali, and my two kids, Lilly and Max.”  They all smiled at Juni; the older kid looked her up and down after the adults and five-year-old had left.
“Are you going to the School of Magic?” Tobin asked.
“Yeah…why?” Juni said, sitting down once again on the creaky porch swing.
Lilly sat down next to her. “Since we just moved here, I don’t know anyone…but now, I will!”  Tobin smiled.
Juni shrugged again. “Everyone is mostly nice…and the people who are not, are mostly obvious.”
“How so?” lilly asked.
“Bragging about spells and such.” Juni got up from the swing and went inside.  Tobin leapt up and followed.

Juni breezed past the kitchen, asking when dinner would be ready and then heading upstairs to her room. Once, Juni was sitting on her bed and Lilly was sitting in her old armchair. Juni spoke again “ so… how old are you?”

“16, why?” lilly replied, looking around juni’s room.

She was impressed. Fairy lights hung above her bed, there were drawings and polaroids all over her walls. There were succulents in cute jars on her shelves and a vintage mirror. There was also what seemed to be a walk in closet full to bursting.

“You like the legends?” Lilly asked, looking at a poster of the girl band.

“Yea they are my faves.” Juni smiled, she liked meeting other fans like her.

“Me too!” Lilly did a little happy dance, she also liked meeting fans.

Lilly took one last scan of the large room, noting the spell books on the floor and the black cat asleep on the bed. Juni and Lilly chatted for what felt like hours (it was really five minutes) until dinner was ready. That night juni made a new friend, who she would see the next morning carpooling to the airport to get to her new school. She wished she could go by broomstick, but her mom insisted that she was not ready yet and she still had to get her permit. So she went on an airplane.
The next morning bright and early Juni was on the plane with Lilly. Don’t ask me how they were able to be together, their parents are hella rich. And by that afternoon Lilly and Juni were pulling up to the curb of The School Of Magic. The two girls walked up to the huge front door and knocked the huge lion shaped knocker. They stood and waited, fidgeting with their uniforms and hair. A woman in a tight pencil skirt opened the door and smiled at Juni, who finally remembered who this woman was. She was the head of the school, well almost she ran the school with her husband.

“Hello Juni.” she took Juni’s bags and said “you must be the new student. Lilly Anderson, correct?”

Lilly nodded, starting to feel more comfortable.

“I was doing my afternoon rounds and heard you two knocking. Everyone else is in the dining hall and main hall. Juni you know where that is. I will give your bags to tommy, he can take them to your separate rooms.” The headmistress strutted off leaving Juni to show Lilly where to go.

The two girls headed in the direction of the dinning hall, which was right next to the main room. They passed the library and both girls longed to go and get lost in a book, but knew they should not and so connected on. When they got to the main hall, Juni opened the door for Lilly and they both went in. There were snacks along one wall and tables along the other. First Years small and scared looking sat on the edges against the walls. Teachers wove through the group looking for trouble. Juni looked around trying to find her friend fern. When she did she pulled Lilly with her.

“Lilly, this is my friend Fern. Fern, this is my new neighbor Lilly.”

The two girls smiled and started talking. Juni backed away and went to see if there were cupcakes. Sadly there were no cupcakes, however there was a new guy. Juni went over to him.

“Hi, I’m Juni. Are you new and not in your first year?” Juni asked that because sometimes like with Lilly there were new students closer to her age.

“Yea, my name is Ty. Seventeen.” He said in a blunt deep voice.

“Cool.” Juni smiled, “I am seventeen too.”

Ty was making signs of not wanting to talk anymore so Juni went to find Lilly and Fern.
